Instructions:
1. Write English sentences onto sheets of paper, then cut the paper so that the sentences cut into pieces.
2. Divide the students into two or more teams.
3. Instruct each team to go to a different corner of the room. Position a different cut-up sentence a couple meters away from each team.
4. Each team should choose a volunteer to play in the first round.
5. Place a ruler or other flat object in front of each team, and tell the volunteers that they may not cross the flat objects until you say "go."
6. When you say "go." each volunteer may cross the flat object and run to the cut-up sentence in front of his or her team. S/he must rearrange the cut-up pieces so that they form a complete sentence again. While they are completing this task, each volunteer must be saying "kabaddi" over and over as in the game of Kabaddi. If a volunteer stops repeating "kabaddi" his/her team is disqualified for the round.
7. The team whose volunteer successfully rearranges the cut-up sentence while repeating "kabaddi" first wins the round. The game may be repeated as many times as you like.
Variations & tips:
1. Use grammar-based challenges, like requiring students to rebuild question sentences, negative forms, or past tense versions instead of just simple declarative ones.
2. Include a spelling twist, where each sentence has a jumbled word the student must unscramble as part of the task.
3.Include a “switch challenge” — mid-race, yell “SWITCH!” and players must stop and switch sentences with another team and continue solving that one.
