Telephone Charades

Description
Students silently act out a vocabulary word down a line like a game of "vocabulary telephone," and the last student guesses the word.

Instructions:
1. Write a list of vocabulary words onto a paper or blackboard so that it is visible to the class.
2. Split the students into two groups, and instruct each group to form a line facing away from you. There must be some space between the students in the line.
3. Have the student at the end of each line walk over to you.
4. Whisper one of the vocabulary words from the list to them, and make sure that none of the other students hear which word it is.
5. The students will return to the end of the lines, and will tap the back of the student in front of them.
6. The students in front of them will turn to face the students at the ends of the lines.
7. The students at the ends of the lines will do their best to show the vocabulary word you told them in an action. All of the students must be silent.
8. The second students from the back of the line will tap the students in front of them, and those students will turn around.
9. The second students will do their best to repeat the actions of the original students, without knowing which vocabulary word was being acted out.
10. The action will be "passed" from student to student in the lines until the actions reach the first person in line.
11. The first person will whisper a guess to the teacher of which vocabulary word s/he originally chose.
12. The first team to correctly guess the original vocabulary word after the action has been passed down the line wins.
Variations & tips:
1.Introduce “trick words” that are similar (like “hop” and “jump”) to test students' attention to detail.
2.Use theme-based vocabulary lists (like sports, animals, or emotions) to match classroom topics or student interests.
3. Have students write their own vocabulary words and use peer-created lists for personalized practice.
